Solid timber suppliers in Perth?
Hello,
I'm thinking of building my second pair of loudspeakers using solid timber for the front panel (baffle). Can anyone from Perth tell me where I can get a good selection?
I require 11" (28cm) width panels. Minimum thickness 19mm.
The speaker builders over at www.diyaudio.com forums have warned about using solid timbers. But the speaker I'm building in an open-baffle speaker (ie. no box): http://www.geocities.com/kreskovs/NaO-gallery.html .Without a box to store high internal sound pressures, I thought that one of our Australian hardwoods would be up to the task.
FWIW, my first speaker was http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ghlight=tktran , but I've found some issues with long-term stability of DIY veneering, probably due to using PVA glue, poor pressing techniques, or just the fact that I live in sunny Perth.
The last option is pre-veneered MDF...

Hi, Have you the means to joint and join to get the width of timber you require?
Otherwise check out Timbecom, Carba-Tec, and the salvage yards for your material.
Also check the Auctions that come up in Saturday's West Australian.
