Crafty Ducks
G'day
For some time i have been turning ducks like the first one for our clubs craft sales .
At the last WWW show in Sydney ,I saw an Orbit Chuck being demonstrated and bought one. This is a screw chuck which can be moved off and on centre .
A couple of weeks ago I found a use for it and started making the second style of duck.
Starting with the chuck on centre I turned the blank down to the maximum diameter of the body, then screwed the chuck about 5mm off centre . I then turned the head section and the start of the body , down to the back of the neck .
I then screwed the chuck back on centre and completed the body being carefull not cut into the front of the neck . There is a bit at the back of the neck that you can't get to and it has to be blended in by sanding . A carefull use of a power sander helps, with the lathe stationery.
Hope you find it interesting . You can see them in the flesh (or feathers ?)at the Kiama Woodcraft Expo , See 'Announcements'
