    Default Getting Sea-stick

Got another commission for yet another walking stick. (I think I might be getting into a creative 'rut'). Anyway, this particular customer wanted a stick for her elderly mother who specified a preference for a 'sea' theme. I had an idea of a winding sea weed design up the shaft of the stick with sea 'critters' poking out of it but it soon become clear that this was beyond my skill level. So I compromised and just carved a few sea 'things' on the shaft. Simple as it is, it was enough of a challenge for me. Still I'm happy with the way it come out and so is the customer, which is probably more to the point.

The handle is melaleuca, the spacers are jarrah and acacia wattle and the shaft is spalted birch. The finish is fine sanding and grape seed oil.

    Hope you like...
