Tricked My Truck
While i've been waiting for more metal from a friend of mine for the rod i decided to start on the truck. So i will have both projects going at the same time.
This one wont be as detailed as the rod it will be mainly custom body work and paint and is 900mm long. To get it going i found the ideal metal bar for the chassis rails so i cut to length and cut the angle on the rear of chassis. Next i decided on the width of the chassis, cut and tiged in the support bars. Then i proceded onto cutting out and folding up the bonnet of the truck.
Next i notched out and tiged in the nut for the rear end to take the bolts that will hold the wheels on.
Today i started on the rear guard getting it cut out off 2mm metal. I cut the front of the guard out of .5 but will recut out of 1.2mm. Today i have measured up a few items that i will draw up inn cad program and cut them out on water jet back at work.

G'Day Scotty,
Another "plans in your head" Masterpiece.
You certainly have been a busy bloke over the long weekend using up all the workshop offcuts.
You'll be torn now; the truck or the rod.
I'll enjoy seeing you progress; thanks for the great WIP photos.
Cheers, Crowie

Thanks Neil, im glad you enjoy my projects, The brew in the glass is home brew Corona no a bad drop i have a 45lt keg in the fridge . Thanks Crowie and Artme, yes another brain strain but thats what i enjoy doing, its a challenge and i think of things then make them, then change my mind once i put it in place like i did tonight.
Yesterday was a think and drink day or was that a drink and think day im not sure which now but there was plenty of both done. I got alot more things drawn up in cad program to get cut this afternoon at work out of 2mm steel plate for the rear guards, the front and rear bars and top of chassis out of 3mm polished stainless and the grill and front and rear guard covers out of 1.5 mm sheet metal. Also im cutting the turntable or 5th wheel out of 10mm white polyuathane plastic material. I started to cut the 2 rear guards on the jet but when it started cutting the radiator surround the waterjet stopped working so i cleaned out the ruby from the blockage and proceeded to cut again when it blocked again so i hit the shut down button and went home. Once i got home i rebent the 2 rear guard into shape then turned out the light and came upstairs ready to try again tomorrow.

Today i cut a few more parts on the jet but its still not working properly so hopefully ill get the rest cut tomorrow. I cut the radiator case then bent it in the bender to the sizes required. Next i bent the other front guard. As i said ive still have to cut the front of the radiator and fins the front and rear bars and remake the bonnet out of thicker material. As you can see in the pics i has a bonnet scoop which is off the rod, i will be mounting one on the bonnet for the air intake instead of them being on either side of the cab. I also cut the 5th wheel / turntable but looks like i will be in creasing the size of it and recutting.

Thanks Crowie, I did make the 5th wheel 5mm bigger all around as well as getting the front and rear guard covers and the grill cut on the waterjet. I will still have to recut the grill cause i still had problems with jet cutting in and out. Last night i tacked them all in position and then cut and bent up the side skirt.

Hi scotty, Here we go again, Love these WIPs of yours and following the progress. This will be another interesting thread. Thanks for taking the time out to show us your work and these great WIPs. I know it takes a bit of effort to photograph a decent WIP so it is really appreciated

Thanks for the comments John And Billy ill keep the pics coming, glad you enjoy.
Havent had much time lately to work on but during the week i got the front and rear mock up bars cut out on the water jet out of 3mm polished stainless and sat in postion to get an idea how they will look. I've cut 3 holes on top of the front bar which will be the blinkers that will have leds fitted into as will the six holes below which is the headlights. The rear has six holes 3 brake 3 blinker. I also spent some time on getting the rear guards, side skirt and front guards mounted into proper position which is very time consuming but it has to be done to get it right.

Looks good Scotty,
Can't wait to see the "led's" installed.
How did you weld the stainless to the mild steel chassis,

Not that far advanced yet Crowie just got them sitting there. I havent really giving it much though yet but i do have stainless electric welding rods i can use which i have used to weld steel before with, or i try to get some stainless tig rods and tig them. Tonight at work i water jetted the top for the chassis out of the 3mm polished stainless but didnt get home till 8.30 so its a bit late to bend and try in place so hopefully in the next day or 2 ill get to that.

G'Day Scotty,
I used to watch the specialist welders "tig" both stainless and aluminium;
it came up as if was always that way, seamless, especially after a polish on the linisher wheel.
Looking forward to the next instalment.
Cheers, Crowie
