Question POLL on COLT DRILLS SETS

    Hi all

It does not matter if you did not take part in Colt Drills Group Purchase, as I am looking for what consumers would like to see in the range. If the question you would like to answer is not in the poll then please post your thoughts into this thread.

If there is a product that you would like to see then suggest it with a post.

My idea for the Drill Stand (to replace the wooden cases) is a piece of timber say 50x50x200mm that has a series of holes all the same size. Into these holes you would press the plastic insert that fits the required drill, so that there is no metal/wood contact to promote rust. The inserts would sit about 6mm above the timber block so that a Dymo label or similar could be stuck on. I suppose that the plastic inserts could be stamped with the size, but I suspect that this might add significant cost to the inserts. Personally I’d rather do my own labels.

For the Forstner bits it would be the same idea on a larger scale, except that the plastic tube would also be the packaging, and the whole unit shrink wrapped for sale.

For long bits (Beam Drills and Augers) I think a custom made chisel/tool roll is the go. There could be two types: one from very durable woven plastic, and a premium leather type. Hopefully some kind of moisture absorbing strip could be incorporated. I think Tradies would like these rolls for their long bits.

That’s it from me, and thanks for voting.

Regards, FenceFurniture (aka The Drill Dill)

I wish they made Forstner bits in sub 15 mm sizes. Such Forstners are good for drilling blind mortices for later pairing for furniture size joinery.

Well 3 mm is about the smallest M&T you would ever use. 6 mm, 9 mm, 12 mm are common metric sizes in chisels and would be ideal.

1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" in imperial are common chisel sizes.

To be honest I am surprised that they do not make these by default. ALL sets I have seen usually contain the above sizes bar the 3 mm or 1/8".
