    Default Jarrah Spice Rack

This is a project that I started last year, and have just completed tonight ..

After getting a bit fed up with them damn Tupperware spice containers for ever falling out of the plastic rotating thingy. I decided to put some of my long un-used wood working skills to the test..

So out went the cars out of the garage, and took over the valuable floor space with my wood working bench and trusty Triton saw bench..

First pics of the trial fit up to ensure the spice containers fit..

Next lot of the rack in the Raw .... Back is made of ply that has been stained Jarrah colour

Some close ups of the joints.. No nails in this project ..

Finished in Boiled Linseed oil rubbed with fine steel wool.

Default jarrah Spice Rack - Part two

This rack is designed to hang on the back of the pantry door, out of the way and keeping the spices in a cool dark place..

So I had to come up with a way of mounting it.. This sucker weighs 15 kg when loaded, so needed something strong. So I came up with a cam locking system. I have seen it used before, so I thought it would be just the trick for this,

So here we go pics of it hung on the door.

    Hung 1.jpg .... Hung 2.jpg .... Hung 3.jpg .... Hung 4.jpg

That is the way it stayed until yesterday when I decided to finish it off by making the 4 draws in the bottom..

They are made out of Jarrah on the front and the rest is Cyprus Pine.

    Draws 1.jpg ... Draws 2.jpg .... Draws 3.jpg .... Draws 4.jpg .... Draws 5.jpg

    Draws 6.jpg .... Draws 7.jpg .... Draws 8.jpg

So there ya have it.. the wifey is now happy as I have finished a project that I have started.. .. Even though it took a year to do so

    Cheers and Beers

Love it Taziman, really well made. I particularly like the draws at the bottom.

Gees, my wife would love one like that... Wanna make another ???

I think the mounting system you've used is called the 'french cleat', though someone with more knowledge could probably confirm/correct me on that.

    Cheers,
    Dave

It is indeed called a French Cleat.

Disclaimer: By agreeing with you Dave, I neither confirm nor refute the possibility that I am in possesion of more or less knowledge.

Oh, and great job on the rack Taz.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

    Cheers thanks guys and gals...

This was the project that got me back into the work shop and the cars now living in the driveway

Thanks for the info on the French cleat.. Now that I know what it is called I can sound more professional when describing it to potential customers.

Dave, I am going to be retired in 9 weeks so will have lots of spare time , (well until Mrs Taz works out that I have time on my hands that is )

so if ya interested I could make one up for ya.. Don't know what the freight would be from WA to NSW would be..

    Cheers and Beers
