Default Oak Wine Barrel Bottle Stopper

Here is my next carving. this one was a lot easier and would have been a good starter one. This one was made from Jelutong.

One difficulty I had was finding corks then I decided to try a home brew shop. I purchased a packet of fifty and when i got home tried to put them into a bottle. They were not tapered but cylindrical. Bugger!

The shop owner then told me that you need a press to put them into a wine bottle to seal it. How was I to know. I only drink the stuff.

Then my friend Google came to my assistance. One reply was to just put the dowel in which you have to do any way put it in a drill press and sand to shape. Eureka.

That's a very neat little carving. Works very well

Pen maker suppliers sell bottle stopper kits usually - both cork ones and metal (stainless or chrome). Check Carrolls site here for some, though i have some teardrop ones that I like (can't remeber where I got them though )

    Cheers,
    Dave

Smile Maybe I have to make/buy some carving tools????

Wow Pete...Setting a fine example! Shame I don't drink but would look pretty impressive in my home-made ginger beer bottle next time I have guests for high tea!!!! Well done - can't wait to see more. Cheers P
