motorcycle chain oil + sawdust
Hi Fellas,
My 16" Luna thicknesser has a chain driving the infeed and outfeed rollers. The manual says to lubricate these a couple of times a year. I think I've done it once in 20 years.
It doesn't say what to oil to lube the chain with, but I have a spray can of Motul motorcycle chain lube in the garage. This stuff goes on very thin for good penetration then thickens up as the solvent evaporates. It works great on dirtbike chains, but I wonder how it might react with sawdust? Has anyone tried it on their woodworking machines?

We have an old SCM S63 thicknesser at work and the drive chains have NEVER been re-lubed in over 60 years. I've pulled it apart a couple of times in the past month to change the drive belts and measure the head as we're finally getting a SHELIX head for it (also gonna put new bearings in for the first time ever - yes they really have lasted 60 years) and everything is still covered in the original grease.
My 2 cents worth; give the chains and cogs a liberal coating with some good grease - as opposed to oil - and you'll probably never have to touch it again.
