    It'll take a bit of doing yet, Ray - but thanks!
    I suspect the spindle and slide for it may yet need some input from you - and maybe some finish machining on your mill. Mine is driving me nuts with its bowed ways, now that I've had a taste of your metrology department

    Thanks Andre, but I'm sorry, I should have said this right at the start: the idea of an converting old production rack-feed mills into surface grinders is NOT my original idea.
    I've come across a couple of these kinds of conversions (or photos thereof) on the 'net.
    I do admit that this one just jumped out at me for the purpose as soon as I saw a picture of it.

    Hi Joe,

    You're welcome back anytime, I'd be happy to do a bit on the mill for you.
    I don't know if a surface plate, a backlight and a dial gauge qualify as a
    "Metrology Department" maybe I should make up a sign to hang over the bench....
