Give me a couple of days and I will see how much lead I have. (have to find where I've stashed it but I reckon I've got 30 or 40 kg). Have you thought of making custom weights and pouring molten lead into them? Even a turned wooden sleeve that a cast lead sausage could slide into.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

    G'day Dean,
One thing to consider is that you will need a larger cylinder to fit a given mass of shot than what you would need for a cast lump of lead. There is an aweful lot of air between all those little balls, taking up lots of room. I think from memory, about 1/3 of the space is air! If you were to melt the shot down to be cast into a solid cylinder, your weight would be 2/3 the size for the same mass.

Also, if you drop the weight and it spills, it makes a BIG mess to clean up!!

Other than that, shot would be fine!

    Cheers

Yes thats what I want to avoid....ideally I need the weight boxes as small as possible to enable the clock to run as long as possible!

Thanks Chris....had been researching that today. I have to make some boxes, preferably out of alley for the lead to slip into. Let me know how much if money is involved.

    Default Progress

These holidays I have set myself a task of producing the final prototype of my weight wheels frame. This frame holds the wheels that the weights will hang from. In this pic i am making some fine adjustments to the pulley centers that were drilled by hand. This time i am having the CNC machine the holes so they are more precise. More soon.

thanks Alex.....progress has been slow due to our renovations since January. I did manage to get a few more things finished over the week end. I will post some pics of the progress this week.

    cheers
