Jarrah & NG Rosewood book/magazine rack
Hi
I have been a lurker here for a while now, however have decided to be a bit more involved and post some of my projects.
I spent three months last year at Sturt School developing my skills on a Fine Furniture making course. This was the first item that I designed and made for the course. Also the first piece of furniture I had made since some el crappo Radiata Pine projects as a 12 yo at school. Thankfully this one turned out better IMHO.
Its probably more about learning joints and practice than anything, however I hate to waste timber so decided to design and make something useful. It now lives in our kitchen, holding some cook books and books on furniture,...
The two sections are seperate and I like it how the shelf just kind of finds its own level and place.
Cheers

Very nice Cam, About time you showed some of your work.
With all that great new machinery you should be churning the projects outThose were the droids I was looking for.

Very classy design and well executed Chief.
Looks like it can take virtually any size of magazine as well.
This is often a limiting factor of other closed designs.
I like it.
Good one!

Thanks Scribbly Gum very kind, I should probably post a photo of it with a book or magazine in it to give an idea of scale. I wrote a blog about my time at Sturt and when I posted these photos some of my friends thought it was a chair!
My initial plan was to use it on my desk for my manila job folders,..hence the supportive sides for floppy items. Ended up too nice to hide on my work desk hence its new job description!
I liked your blog as well btw,..looks like a nice part of the world you find yourself in,..well apart from some of the neighbours that is

I really love your design, & the timbers loke fantastic together. I would be very interested in a couple of dimensions if you would'nt mind sharing them, as I have been thinking about some sort of rack to keep my Wood Work Mags in & your design is perfect.
Great work, both the design & the build.
SteveThe fact remains, that 97% of all statistics are made up, yet 87% of the population think they are real.
