    Default Belt Sander

Hi, I have a small table belt sander, 1/4 HP motor 50Hz, 1500 rpm. It's about 24 years old now. Lately it's been very sluggish and feels like its about to give up. Is there any service you can do to the motor in these,.....for example, replace brushes or something like that. I'm not really mechanical minded, but if I knew what I was doing, I would take the casing off the motor and have a look.

    Regards, Paul

The first thing I would do is get a leaf blower and force air into the motor and clean out any dust.

I clean all of my electric tools this way.

I resurrected a bathroom fan/light/heater this way as it was clogged with talcum powder and motor would not turn efficiently. Held the blower up to the ceiling unit and gave it a blast.

    Hope this assists,

Thanks Ned, I shall try that, good thinking.

It's not a flash table belt sander, but it does the job. I used to have a large industrial one, 2ph, 48x6 inch belt, 12 inch disc, but I didnt think I would have room in this place to bring it when we moved, silly me.
