JPT 310 Anyone Recommend
Hi, its time for my annual major tool purchase.
my workshop is 6x6 - so i dont think I can fit in a dedicated jointer and thicknesser.
Plus I'm sure I will only be an occasional user (bloody work )
So in keeping with all my other major machinery purchases, I was looking at the JPT 310 (most likely the HH model).
does anyone have one?
Any issues/dramas etc
regards
Warren

Mate
I am right there with you on the 310, if you can afford the helical head then do it, I have heard its a top machine.
I am going to get the 210 as my budget is around that $1900 and like you I am a hobbyist, box maker so the 210 will suit me fine.
The other option is the woodfast but I would go the Jet.

I've had the JPT310 with the standard head for nearly 2 years. Other than the service I had during the purchase, I've been happy with the machine.

JPT310HH, brilliant.
Smooth, almost polished finish on most timber, require minimal sanding. I did put some notoriously difficult Aust. Red Cedar through yesterday and there is just the slightest tearout, which could probably be prevented with a little more care.
Changeover between planing and thicknessing takes mere seconds. Very satisfied.Brian

I've had the 3-phase standard head JPT-310 for a couple of years, also very happy with it. Took a bit of setting up when I first got it (not very well done in the factory), but once tuned its a nice machine. Mine has a (mechanical) digital counter thing on the thicknesser that reads to 0.1mm; once calibrated, you really can get repeatable thicknessing down to this sort of tolerance. Not sure if the smaller version of the machine has this as well?
The HH version wasn't available when I bought mine, but I'm still considering trying to buy the helical cutterhead from JET to upgrade my machine. The idea usually pops into my head about the time the blades need changing......
The Shellix head is too expensive in this size, but if JET did an upgrade helical head kit I'd buy it.

Lignum - I saw a video somewhere from a guy who had put a bolt through the middle of the height adjust wheel (epoxied in place) solely to get around this.
When using the machine he has a battery drill handy with the appropriate socket mounted in it. Its amazing how fast that table can be made to go up and down.....

Lignum - I hadn't thought of using an air-powered tool.
I have an air line near the machine, and I seem to remember Aldi having some cheap air tools not long ago !
Cheers !

so this is the response I got re-price...what do you think?
The JET JPT 310HH is normally $3800.00 Inc GST, at the moment we are doing this machine for $2950.00 Inc GST.

I'd be inclined to take it and run, before they discover the error
That's the price I paid for the standard head version of the 310.....Last edited by Mr Brush; 17th October 2011 at 08:43 PM. Reason: finger trouble

Also picked up the mobile base which apparently I need to cut down on one side....
While I was there I picked up the JBG 8A Bench top grinder.....

An engine hoist is a good way to go.
