The Rose Inlay was roughed in today. Monique selected The Rose only a few months after being told she had terminal cancer. The Rose was played at her funeral 12 months later. Her Tribute Guitar will be finished in a short while. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

That inlay is truly beautiful - brought tears to my eyes.
Heartfelt sympathies for your loss. This guitar is a fitting tribute!

Almost there. The neck has been carved, I went a little thin near the head, well lucky for me the Ebony neck is rather stiff and strong. lol Still have a little more detail to clean up around the heal. I guess I should have used profile guides for the shape of the neck but I just eyeballed it and kept checking the feel of it as I went. Jack gave his bent on things and guided me through the process again. Thanks so much.
At the end of the session is was very satisfying to see and feel a neck shaped to my liking. It was a shame to see so much of that lovely stick of Ebony lying on the floor as shavings. It was great to put the HNT Gordon shaves to good use.

Jack found it rather funny that my first neck carve was with Ebony. He assures me that everything after this will seem easy to carve and go a lot faster.
Ready for the pore filling seal coat and the finish.

Sitka Spruce soundboard with quilting and wild bearclaw,
    Macassar Ebony Neck,

    rope purfling...black poplar, pear, jarrah,

Absolutely beautiful work and a great selection of timbers.

Some people timber selections simply dont look right, whereas to my eyes these timbers just match wonderfully.

This instrument is truly beautiful, both in craftsmanship and materials selections. A very poignant and lovely tribute indeed.

Will get some nice photo's this weekend.
Here are some quick snaps of the guitar all finished.
I'm very pleased with the way it has come together and I've learnt a great deal in the process. It sounds very promising although it is a little difficult to tell as it has lots of overtones just now just like all fresh steel string guitars. I'll give it a few weeks before I record a little sample.
Once again I can't thank Jack Spira enough for his amazing guidence during this build. It has been a wonderful process to be part of and I look forward to building the next one in his workshop as well. I feel blessed and greatful for the opportunity to work under the instruction of a great luthier and terrific fellow.

The Fossil Walrus is not a cites issue as it is Very Very old although a US fisheries permit is needed.

Thanks to all for all the comments.
