    Default Want a cooler shed!

    HI,

I'm looking for and actively seeking ideas, suggestion or current practices for a cooler shed. (Already have fans.)

    As temperature increases production decreases.

Neither have positive results on state of mind or state of personal finances.

By next summer (hopefully) an aircon will be in place but at present looking for most effective heat barrier for roof.

All help or pointers will be gratefully received.

    Shed 6m x 9m 2.7 ceilings 2 3m roller doors

    Cheers

    Steve

Stop the sun hitting the shed by shading it with something like shade cloth/tarpaulin etc. This how a tent fly works.

If you have a cheap source of metal sheeting, a second skin of metal with good ventilation between the skin and the shed can work in a similar way. We did this to a transportable building at work. It only helps when the air temperature is less than the surface shade temperature so it works best early in the morning and later in the day but when the air temp is HOT it doesn't make any difference.

AC is the only sure way. Putting insulation in the roof means that it acts as a radiator when the air temp drops later in the day.

yep - I lurve my AC

Just got our first power bill for the period over which I have had the air con in the shed. It looks like it's costing me an average of about $1 a day, not too bad considering how hot it has been here in Perth during the last six weeks.
