    Default Cheap shed lining suggestions

I bought some laserlite* the other day so my shed should soon be waterproof.
Next I'd like to line it or at least some of it.
As what is lined, is pretty rough, I don;t want to spend a whole lot of money.

Any suggestions? Cheapest material so far seems to be 3,2mm Masonite,

Nothing on offer from the usual second hand sources.

*A bit annoyed at this. I've been shopping around the second hand places and online but no offer of second hand polycarbonate roofing. The day I decide to buy a few new sheets, someone places an ad in gumtree for exactly what I was looking for and in the suburb I was getting the new stuff from!

If you can find a company that imports heavy machinery there should be some wooden (usually pine) crates which can be a good source for planking and bearers for that matter.

I haven't seen any evidence of a hard rubbish collection down here yet.
There are plenty at the tip shops but not for free

Used ply/masonite is what's currently on the bits that are lined. Must be a source of that somewhere.

A 2400x1200x3.6mm sheet of masonite is around $25, about the same price as similar sized ply.

I'm only looking at doing one wall to about 2 metres.

I reckon un-veneered chipboard would be about the same price as Masonite and would reflect more light.

7 mm thick Ply at my Bunnings is $30 a sheet. This would be much stronger and more durable than masonite. Gyprock is $13 for a 10 mm thick similar size sheet. It's stick one of the cheapest way to clad walls.

Gyprock would be fine if the shed was waterproof .

When it rains, the fibro walls show damp and there are a couple of splits where water trickles down inside. One end of the shed is adjacent to the veggie garden which is a few centimetres higher than the cement slab. Some moisture seeps through - along with a bit of dirt and a few bugs.
    If it wasn't a rental ...

Unless you solve the water problems first, your wood based lining materials will not last. Other wise it is cement sheet based lining

    Cheers

    Geoff,

check out your local cabinet makers/hardware store, they should have plenty of "packing sheets" of mdf/chipboard. it is usually very cheap.

I was trying to work out the best way to line my shed over the insulation. I have 2.7m walls which is made up of three long "longerons" running the length of the shed, one at the top, the bottom and one in the middle. These are what the sheets are screwed to.

I wanted 2.7 meter sheets so I could screw them straight to the runners with the insulation between.

No one holds anything longer than 2.4 in MDF, ply, chip, Masonite etc. I found a timber merchant who holds 2.7 sheets but would only sell to retail outlets, Bunnies etc.

I tried to get Bunnies to give me a quote to get some 2.7m stuff in but after being on hold for half an hour and transferred all over the place I hung up in disgust.

I called the local Mitre 10 and the guy who answered the phone said he would find me some 2.7m stuff and call me back, I thought....yeah, sure you will. Well dip me in honey and throw me to the bears, an hour later he called me back and said he could get me 2.7m x 1.2m x 12mm MDF for $30 a sheet...SOLD!!
Try to look unimportant, they may be low on ammo.
