You need to pick a point of rotation and get the axe turning.
Sunbursts are usually done with airbrush.
Personally, I think they look tacky. Been done a thousand times before.

I'd look for somebody who tags railway cars and buildings. . . the girls are better at it than the boys. Plenty of serious artists with the spray cans.

We held an "open" airbrush art class (evenings) at the local art gallery. Amazing talent, mostly the girls and guess what? Most of the "taggers" were there, based on style!!!!!

You Never know what you will find under a solid finish. it may be totally unsuitable (poorly matched multi piece, knots etc)
You can get the behlens sunburst spreys from guitarAust.

If you go to the LMI website and scroll down on their homepage you'll find a tutorial section that has a video on doing a sunburst. I personally tried it and it works very well. I did it on curly maple though. Like it was pointed out, you don't know what's under that black finish. Any chance you could thin the body and top it off with a high quality top wood? Good luck, Mike

She is a beautiful piece of ply so looking at it I may go for a solid white finish
I have attached a pic to show ,it is only a muck around project that I bought on a whim
the brand is status and the model is silohette it sounds very impresive

Theres many different styles of burst, I tend to disslike the "spun" style suggested above. I like a nice gentle burst that follows the shape of the guitar rather than just looking like a circle.

I do mine freehand with an airbrush, I paint all the color first then the burst last starting solid at the edge and then blend it out moving around the edge following the lines of the guitar and pulling the airbrush away from the guitar to make the burst fade.

Heres a couple pics of my recent bursts to help explain:

And same style on a neck:

    Hope that helps somewhat.
