Default Review: 909 12" compound miter saw from Masters

Hi guys, recently I purchased a new CMS from the new masters store here is WA, its made by 909 - a company I had not heard of before walking into masters when I spotted the 12" compound miter saw sitting out on display for about $290...

Anyway if your like me the price would be a little bit off putting and raise questions about quality and reliability but I decided to bite the bullet anyway and bought one.

I wrote a review for my JordsWoodShop.com which is available to view here:

Bellow is a preview of the article minus the photos
    ________________

Recently I purchased a budget friendly (sub $300) 909 branded 12″ compound miter saw.

First up I have to say I am very impressed with this unit, keeping in mind this is a sub $300(AUD) unit it is packed full of features that are usually only seen on the more expensive models.
Like anything there are things that could be improved or changed to make the saw suit my specific needs but really at the end of the day these things are easily overcome by doing some simple DIY mods or additions such as attaching an auxiliary fence.

Lets talk about some things that made this saw have a positive first impression. I guess the first thing would have to be the way the saw comes out of the packaging, right out of the box this saw came pre-assembled and ready to go, all that was needed was a quick once over to make sure everything was tight and where it should be, and to power it up!
Not only was it ready to go out of the box, it was properly tuned! The blade was dead on 90 degrees to the table, the table was dead on 90 degrees to the fence, the laser line was dead on, etc etc.

On-top of this the features this saw has is impressive to say the least, I wont list all of them as they are all available on the 909 website (link posted bellow) but the ones that really stood out to me is as follows.

Anyway I hope this review might help someone out there one day.

Cheers mate, that's a good read. It's good to see the saw and fences are square to each other. What about other set angles (ie: 45deg)? Can it make an accurate series of cuts to form box mitre joints?

I havent played around too much with the positive stop angles yet but the two 45 degree cuts I did make (either side of the scale) while mucking around were pretty much spot on. the cut on the right was tiny bit out but I had forgotten to tighten the the locking nob down wich would most likely explain it.

As for the bevel cutting ability the positive stops were right on the money for the 90 degree and 45 degree angles but they are able to be fine tuned with a fine threaded screw so I dont think there would be an issue tuning it to alternative angles or just tuning back to 90/45 if it did get knocked out of square for any reason.

Once I have a bit more time with the saw i'll report back on all the finer details, but so far all my 90 degree cuts have been perfect!
