I'd go for the book with dvds and Stew Mac have it for about $150. The dvd shows lots of carving techniques and how to make specialised jigs which will help you achieve some tricky stages of your build. I can give you a link to 250 pics of my recent archie build. I have started another Archie myself using Queensland Kauri and I will be starting the carve very soon. The rims are all finished as is the neck blank. You can ask me questions anytime too.

    Cheers

    Love your work, Alan.

I also have a muso son, (not yet professional, but we're hoping) but I'm at his mercy, since I'm a musical ignoramus.

    regards
    Alastair

Thanks Alastair for your kind words.

Well I hope your young fella does well with his music.

My son was lucky to have the opportunity to study his music theory grades at school through years 10, 11 and 12 and he achieved seventh grade. He also studied his modes on guitar for just over two years with a good music teacher.

So tell your son if he is serious about music he needs a good music theory knowledge base and a full understanding of the modes. All good fun!

    Cheers

    Alan
