I use timber all the time for necks that is not quarter sawn, however I make up for it by making 3 piece necks and running the center piece the opposite direction from the outer piece, or by laminating in some other colored timbers making it a 5 piece neck.

Just because it's not quarter sawn doesnt mean you can't use it, just means you have to use your imagination and find a creative way to use it successfully.

For example this Mahogany and ebony neck:

Or this Mahogany/Rosewood/Huon neck with Sassfrass headstock and curly Maple binding

So if you're set on using the Blackwood, don't let people tell you that you can't, work out a way so that you can. But I'd suggest cutting it and adding something else, or cutting it and turning the center piece around.

    Good luck.

    Default Blackwood neck

Yes I will agree with the above idea but as I have said before don't use it as a one piece neck.
As it will be too unstable lately I have been re-sawing neck woods to 5mm thickness and offering my customer different species for neck laminations this will give a stonger neck plus nice colour contrasts.
If you want to use some of this blackwood in your neck slice it in strips and end to end each other piece then glue.

    Default Blackwood neck

To give an idea attached photos of one of the orders that I worked on today for an Acoustic build, back & sides will be spalted Tasmanian blackhearted sassafras.
Customer wanted a neck to work in with the back & sides so my suggestion book matched spalted blackhearted sassafras for the neck top and bottom with a centre core of dense quarter sawn eucalyptus this will give strengh and stablity.
Photos. 1 & 2 Acoustic back. photo 3 left hand side Eucalyptus. next book matched spalted Tasmanian blackhearted sassafras.
    Cheers Bob

What is the dimensions of the piece for the neck.

You may be able to cut the wood like this.

Say this is the end section [] . Cut like this [/]

If the piece is big enough you will get two quartersawn neck blanks.
