I don't need one and can't think of where I'd use one - but I want one!

Looks useful, I like the way it can be used forwards and backwards. I'll check it out at the Woodwork Show.

It would not be that hard to mount a grinder in a slide like the ones used with routers for planing large slabs. With that blade it'd make quick work of pretty much any piece of timber you wanted to level.

I use the Arbortec Pro wheel a fair bit for reducing the diameter of branches down to that suitable for carved walking staves. I tend to use it flat, much the same way as this is demonstrated. I think It would give a smoother finish which would save me some work with the sander afterwards.

Worth a look I reckon. Anybody know what its retailing for?

Would be a great way for me to trim up billets of western red cedar for wood carving.
However, there are not enough years left in my life to clean up my shop. Did you notice that? There were shavings being flung far and wide. I don't need to live in the shop, just find things as usual. Out doors or nothing, I'm afraid. Same goes for the Log Wizard = chainsaw attachment.
I had a blacksmith pound out a very bash-worthy froe for me. Made up a 1.5kg wooden mallet. . . . peaceful activity, splitting.

    Evening Gents
Last year, I invited Kevin Inkster to our Christmaswind up function. He gave a great talk, very entertaining, and also brought the Turboplane prototype and some items he hade made. He was fantastic. I believe the Turboplane will retail for more than $150.

    Hi Willy,
$159 actually - will be demonstrated at the WWW show, so we will see them in Sydney on July. Have a look at the Arbortech site. John M.

Wow. Glad I found this thread. This tool is exactly what I need for ripping the outside of my carved boxes into shape. It's on my shopping list now, for in a few weeks time.
I bought the 'Carving Miner' 110mm x 14mm rod for a grinder last week. It helps rough out the inside quickly. Hard to hang onto at times, though. Fits on the 10mm shaft of a 100mm angle grinder.

    Default Arbortech Turbo Plane

Had a play with the demo one at the Melbourne wood show and it worked well.

Had another go at the brisbane show where they were released and noticed a slight change in the cutter shape, nothing to worry about just worked smoother. Allows you go go both ways where the other blades prefer to go from right to left in a dragging action.

I will still use the Arbortech Industrial carver blade to get rid of the bulk material as this works faster than the Turbo Plane, the main reason is that the teeth on the turbo Plane are limited in depth of cut by the shape of the blade.
The TurboPlane is a great clean up tool once the bulk has been removed and gives a cleaner finish than the abrasive discs.

Another one of those cool tools.
