Restoring nitrocellulose finish on a mandolin
Any ideas on how to restore stain and finish on the top section of the back of the mandolin? See photograph. Or is it best to take to a luthier?
There was a fine crack on the join between the back plates where it has been lightly sanded. It looks like the nitrocellulose was stained, as there is no stain underneath it.
Thanks
Nic

There are some articles in the Stewmac archives worth a read.
STEWMAC.COM : Issue 124, 1955 Gibson TV finish: recreating that unique see-thru yellow
STEWMAC.COM : Issue 102, Relic finish: faking age cracks on a 1956 Strat

If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.
