OK guys, I know it's been a while. The finger's now all healed, but I've been a little sidetracked... I brought this lot home a couple of weekends ago.

    But that's another w.i.p.

I have worked out what to do with the front end. I decided that I wanted to run with the strip, so I thought about how wide I wanted it to be and sanded down the centre of one of the tapered side pieces. Then I glued the piece of infill Mahogany to it. Then I sanded down this infill piece to the thickness I wanted, then sanded the opposite tapered side to match and glued the whole lot together.

My next delima is the shape of the front, so I'll be comparing a few photos...

It'd want to be good, it cost a packet!!

    It's 460l/m of Spotted Gum decking, a mixture of 86 x 20 & 136 x 20.
Here's a sneak peak at part of the application.
    Spotted Gum decking 003.jpg

Behind me and to the left is an 18M x 3.6M pergola that will be mostly tiled, but with one row of tiles left out and the decking in its place. And finally, I want to make a steel table, topped with the same decking and three tiles down the middle.

Glad this is a slow thread Yonnee as I have not had much to catch up on. Coming along slowly but worth every minute

When I saw the trailer with all that wood I thought you was going to build a Full size 1 to 1 scale model(Now there's a thought well maybe not)

    Default Time is getting away...

I could see light at the end of the tunnel, but now I think it's a train called 'January'. I must get my backside into gear if this is going to get finished.

Same as the rear guards, the fronts have a template for cutting both the top & sides, and so I did the same trick by cutting top template first (the diagonal) and then taping it back together. However, this time, I was going to lose most of the tape as I cut it. So I cut most of the outside curve, then sanded almost to the line, then taped over these sections and then finished cutting and sanding the outer curve. Then I was able to cut the inner curve with the tape on the outside curve holding it together.

I think maybe a bobbin sander or drum sander is on the future shopping list... but this does the job.
    VW Beetle w.i.p 115.jpg

A dry fit run to see how they sit on the car... still have to run the router round the guards.
    VW Beetle w.i.p 116.jpg VW Beetle w.i.p 117.jpg

I'm still not 100% happy with how the front of the boot looks. Time to have a close look at a heap of pictures and see if I can fix it.

    Next major task... WHEELS!!

My apologies to all who've been waiting patiently. Last January was looming all too quickly and I didn't want to end up rushing it and having it look like a dog's breakfast, particularly as I still haven't even attempted the wheels yet. So it was put on the back burner and I went back to playing cricket...
Then came the question from SWMBO; "When are you going to get some more done on the deck? Be nice if it was before Summer." So most of my free time this winter during daylight hours has been tiling and decking... and looking for a new car.
Pergola build 018.jpg Pergola build 019.jpg

But seeing as the deck's mostly done now, Hermit's made a start on his, and January will come at me like a train again, I'd better get back into it again.

Excellent. Good to see you're back, and back at it Pete. You did say 'extremely slow', after all.
(I don't intend rushing mine either.)

That was a failed attempt to keep the 2-1/2 year old Australian Terror Terrier off the deck while I tiled... Worked OK while I was out there, but as soon as I went inside, he chewed through it and appeared at the Family Room door within 5 mins.

That's one of the "too many projects"... It's a HT Premier Wagon, and there's a HG Brougham behind it... The Pajero was the daily driver til it decided to start mixing its drinks... oil & water don't mix too well.

    This is the new one...
