Tool Drawers for easy access
G'day all
This is yet another project that I've had on the go for a while. I had been waiting for the handles to arrive from Lee Valley. These drawers will replace the grey Desk Pedestals that I have been using, and make much better use of the space under the bench. I have two more to make, but they will be delayed until I get a Domino shortly.
The construction is hardwood frame and MDF, with Blue Gum faces. Rather than use metal drawer runners, I decided to make my own, and the only real drawback is that they have nothing to stop them coming out altogether (wich is a bonus as well as a bit of a PITA). The hardwood runners just sit in a routed channel, and once they are waxed up they run surprisingly smoothly.
The pale trim around the front is Tasmanian Oak. The drawer fronts have all had a 5mm roundover treatment to save catching and cutting hands, and the side trim of Tas Oak has also had a roundover on the inside face so that the drawers have a nice gentle ride home.

Now you may wonder why I have placed the handles as I have. This unit is in my primary bench area, and so with the handles offset as they are I can just reach down without looking and know that I have the correct drawer. "Aha!" I hear you say..."so why have you labelled them?". Well, I'm such a ridiculous creature of habit that whenever I change the layout or tool position I keep going back to the old position for "quite some time". This happens to me with everything of course, and just recently I found myself looking for something in a place that I had changed at least two years ago - go figure!

While I'm at it, I recently incorporated a system of plastic storage boxes throughout the Barn. I have a list of what is in what box and where the box is, and also cross-referenced alphabetically.
Now there are those who say that Howard Hughes is alive and (almost) well , but I promise you that this has solved the endless searches for the rarely referenced things, and also helps out with dust & rust (I have a little silica gel sachet where required).

The two pieces of Granite are my sanding station, and that will be the subject of another thread sometime.

Very neat. Love it

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

I like the way the handles are offset. Very practical.

Looks good. What about the rest of the shed? Is it a work in progress?

You've been a busy boy lately Brett. The draws look great.
As for the offending container, take it out, hit it with a mallet then set it on fire. That will teach it. The audacity of it.Those were the droids I was looking for.

Becoming less so Christos. In fact I'm one major tool away from having to deliver the goods.

Ah, looks like one of the Mods has changed the (too large) pic size, or made it so that they enlarge when clicked, or summint. Could you tell me what you did please, coz I'd actually like to do it that way in future? PM will do.
Thanks, Brett

You do know if you set things out neatly like that other people will be able to find things in you shed.....
Looks good, almost makes me want to get organized......nah, too much work to do for that! Well organised Brett, no good for me though.
If I could find everything so quickly & easily I would be finished too soon and would have to leave the shed and go back to the house
