    Default Hollow log picture frames

Went to the Mortlake Muster yesterday and saw some hollow log large picture frames. They were slices from a log cut on a bit of an angle.
    They looked very effective.
But I wonder if they will degrade over time.
    Any comments???????????

If they were cut at an angle from a hollow log, they will probably stay intact.
A solid slice cut straight across the log will almost allways spit.
Because it's got the huge hole in the middle the wood can move as it shrinks without tearing the piece apart. Cutting at an angle help relieve the stress as well.
Depends what sort of wood, and how dry the log was as well.

    Cheers

What if you cut some fine reliefs completely through it and held it together with a backing brace of mdf rebated in so you can see it?
Hate to cut some glass to fit!
