HI Guy's
the grand kids guitars are fret less, and I will source a couple of pieces of either pvc conduit, or copper tube , which I will attach to the guitars with a short length of blind cord.
The Bass< I have not decided yet , so as I get further into the build I will look at it, I am leaning towards fret less with it as well.

There are a number of printable fret placement calculators on the net. They all seem to be pretty good. FretCalc is good. Its really quite simple, you print the frets onto paper, stick them on the fretboard timber and cut the slots using a thin saw. You can check them relatively quickly by measuring the distance to the twelfth fret and it should be half of the total string length. There are some who argue that the accuracy needs to be less than 1/4mm but frankly unless you have a machine cutting the slots its impossible and there are other factors that affect the pitch of the note more at that level.
Cliff, Ive never bought tuners without screws, they may be hidden in the back of the pack or something like that."We must never become callous. When we experience the conflicts ever more deeply we are living in truth. The quiet conscience is an invention of the devil." - Albert Schweizer

Nice work vk4 and fineboxes ! I've been planning on making a cbg after seeing a guy playing one he made, at the Maleny Wood expo. (Being a Blues head I guess there's a connection!) I have some soundboard from a piano put aside to make the box.
Just thought I'd give a heads-up on a book I recently bought about this: "Handmade Music Factory", I got it from Dymocks. Pretty detailed, with circuit stuff for pickups and fret templates etc.

You will also get LOTS of interesting reading if you google 'Basitar & Guitbass'
Both are normal 6 string guitars that have been modified it use only 2 or 3 strings & a very easy to play.
If you go straight to this page, it explains it all & gets you up & going fairly quickly.

Well the Grand Kids guitars are clear coated, and I have the tuners for the strings, now all I have to do is fit all the bits and pieces.
I have also started the Bass Guitar for my son,. The face and back have been laminated and machined, and the neck has been laminated , and now has to be machined.
I will take some pictures tomorrow, and post.
I think I stated a monster when I started this thread.LOL
