Woodfast Cobra lathe accessories
I have a Woodfast Cobra two bar lathe that has served me well for a number of years. Recently I have been doing a reasonable amount of off centre work. Even with attention to counter weights etc it is at times difficult to dampen the vibrations enough to run the lathe at the speed I would like.
When I purchased the lathe Woodfast had support legs that went between the bars and the lathe bench top, two on each side. At the time I did not see the need. I have contacted Woodfast but they no longer have stock or any interest. Is there anybody out there that has them could could provide a photograph that may help me to get a set manufacted?
If there is a better way of stabilising the bars I would be interested in hearing of that.
This is my first post and am not sure of the protocol but thanks in advance for your assistance

hi chas,
firstly welcome to the forum,i am not familiar with your lathe but i am sure
someone will be and offer some more advice on this ,but you have not said what sort of
base/legs you have at the moment, sometimes you can strengthen up by bracing the legs
with thick ply,or by adding weights[ cement pavers/bags of cement ] etc.
hope this helps and as i said, someone who knows better than me will advise ,i am sure
cheers smiife

Two bits of hardwood clamped with a bolt and nut across the ways and then wedged to the bench will do the same thing as the Woodfast ones.
The advantage is that you can put them where you want them and as many as you need.

Thanks for your help . Gave it a try today. Certainly dampened the vibrations. Not sure what excuse I can use now for poor results, may have to improve the skills.

That B A Lathe.
Hi Chas T,
Yes, I know of a Chap, many Moons ago had one of them.
Cost him $100 for the 4 Dampeners, that didn't really work anyway.
I wood certainly Sell the Stupid thing.
I think they called them " The Bouncers ".
I know that I couldn't fix that Lathe for him, & I thought I knew a little bit about Lathes, & walked away in disgust.Regards,
issatree.
