Default Hi all chasing timber for a solid body

Complete Newbie to this site. It seems a little hard to find good peices of timber to make a solid body guitar. I prefer heavier sounds, and i have been told QLD maple is the best timber to use for this. Does anyone know of suppliers of QLD maple with timber thats about 120mm thick 300mm wide and 1m long.

Also what other timbers could I use that are local to the darling downs/Bunya mountains area

Just thinking the same thing. 120 is pretty bloody thick. I usually buy my blanks at around 40mm

    Default 50mm

I like to split and dress my own timber, I also like to aim for about a 47-52mm thick electric

    Default Timbers

Not sure where you are located but there is Aust Furniture Timber Index Page AFT
Mathews Timber http://mathewstimber.com.au both in Melbourne.
I've only ever used American Maple for the top and Mahogany and Fijian Mahogany both the base layer.

    Default Boutique Timber

Try Mal at Boutique Timbers 65 858296. He has supplied 75mm in cube amounts to guitar makers and may have stock, not sure about 120mm thick, but he could perhaps cut some for you from a log.
Or try his email: [email protected].

Anagote or Trend in Sydney may also have stock

    Hi,

I see you are in Toowoomba. Dunno if you have sorted your problem, but Mapleman is in Cedarton, near Woodford in SE QLD. He sells a lot of Qld Maple, although I don't know if he could sell it at 120 mm thick. I think that is asking a bit much. He is on the Timber Sales on the Market Place forum - probably worth a pm or an email.

    Kind regards
