I figure if it sounds lousy as a guitar, I can hack the neck off and use it as a drum.

It probably won't be as loud when I close it up with the back/lid, but so far so good.
I'm just drawing up the bridge at the moment.

The preamp arrived today, minus a nut for the output phono jack, so I popped them an email. I wonder if they'll post me such a minor item? I had a dig and can't find anything to fit here, but I have a jack on the way from Realtone in NZ anyway, so it's not important.

They got back to me already re the missing nut and washer for the preamp phono jack, after asking for a photo, and are posting one immediately. Great backup service, I must say.

Default To label or not to label, that is the question?

After going to the trouble of getting a vintage ~1910 cigar box label, I can't decide which looks better - with the label or without.

    All opinions welcome.

Thanks Greg, (I think). I know what you mean - not easy.

    Just realised it's upside down!

Haaa ... Well you did say all opinions. Its just that my taste is considered 'unreliable' by friends and family. Their word for unreliable is 'garish'. So what I mite like, could be a disaster ...

If I sent you a pic of my favourite shirt, no further explanation would be required.

Me too. I sort of like it, if it was right way up, but not sure about the yellow. The black and gold looks good.

To be honest ... And bearing in mind my taste is for the bizzare ... Then I think one bright flash of colour should be on all wooden objects.

Its atavistic, but I have inherited it ... Haaa

Yeah, it won't stand out so much once the bridge is on and the volume and tone knobs are fitted. The knobs will be on the top right, in the pics I posted. (Bottom left to someone watching it being played.) The strings over the label will make a difference, too.

Either way, I'm not in a hurry. I won't put the label on until after the sanding sealer is rubbed back, just before the poly coats, or maybe after most of the poly coats. Haven't exactly worked out the best sequence yet. I don't want to sand through the embossing.
I'm making the bridge tomorrow, now that I have it drawn up. Just filling in time tonight.

'Yes' to the label, as long as it goes on the right way up.

Thanks Cliff. I won't make that mistake now. I'll watch myself.

That's one for and two undecided, counting myself.

    More is better, either way.

OK, My vote is get a sharp scalpel and cut the yellow section out.
Let the timber show thru the centre.
you could leave the little strip under the torso if you wanted.

    Love it!
Great idea Pete. I think that's the way I'll go, but I'll consider taking out that bottom strip as well and glue it on in two pieces. A bit trickier, but it'll look better.

    No more votes needed.

Now I just have to work out the best order of doing things. I'll probably do the sanding sealer and all poly coats except two, then put on the last two after the label, with no more sanding. Not in that area, at least.

Still got to have a think about what type of glue to use. Might have to be contact adhesive. I'd use epoxy, to help fill and support the embossing, but I'd probably make a hell of a mess with squeeze-out.

On that note, I've been thinking about pre-filling the embossing from the back with epoxy, letting it dry then gluing the label on.

Any suggestions on gluing and type of glue are welcome, too. I'd use PVA or Titebond, but I'm not sure how well they'd stick to poly.

Yep, I wish I'd thought of it. Gets rid of all of the extra yellow and just leaves it where it belongs, in the face & robe.
I'm sure glad I posed the question now.
    Thanks again Peter.
