All the bottom long's done last weekend.
Started under floor storage...you can just see the frame for it in first pic. Transom brackets, vertical seams, deck stiffeners coming up next.

Thanks Ross.
A couple of good weekends and I think she'll be ready for a flip over to finish the bottoms.
Just poked around this weekend and tidied up a few fiddly jobs - transom brackets required marking out and cutting. Also getting the in floor storage ready.
Plenty of support in the transom. Still have to work out bilge pump brackets, how the Bennett trim tabs are going to mount and through hull water supply for the deck wash/ live bait system.

I have been thinking of mounting the tabs using 100x10 flat bar as a doubler with tapped threads and also installing a flat anode across the top. The stainless tabs will have a divider of HDPE between the mount and alloy.
Would this be the best way to go for this set up as I don't want to many holes below water line? I was also thinking maybe a channel or a bent profile and securing the tabs by nylocs.
What would be a good weld method for this? I haven't done any thick to thin sections yet.
Would it be better to tap the threads before or after welding?

IIRC there's a Miller video with a guy called Chris Razor demonstrating welding a sleeve in an engine block or something similar. He discusses settings he used for that application - thin piece edge welded to solid ally block.
I'd do it after, particularly since I warped the crap out of some threads on a job I was doing a month ago and it was a major pain fixing it.

Thanks Legion,
Just checked out the vid. Chris makes it look easy.......wouldn't mind one of those tiny water cooled torch He's got there. I'll have to practice.

A little too windy today for welding so continued with arranging parts for fit up.

Looking really good Craig, its been really interesting watching this project progress.
I agree regarding welding prior to tapping - as long as you're able to get access after it's welded in.
Very nice work on those gutters.
Cheers

Thanks Mick. I fluked the gutters.
Did some weld tests today before the wind picked up and then attacked the transom area . A lot more work then I thought and took all day to complete.

Well from what I could see they were just about perfect.
Well after all, the transom is something you don't want to fail, not with those shiny new Mercs on the back. Are you keeping a log of your total time?
I for one appreciate all the photos... so keep them coming
Cheers

Craig this has been a great WIP with plenty of pic's. I bet you can just about stand on your head by now and run those welds.

Glad you like the photos. Being a novice boaty and this my first build Im always searching the internet for pics to get ideas, so hope this helps someone else out on there project.
Still getting my head around MIG Ross. Its quite easy on the bench but doing a boat with all these nooks and cranny's is quite hard...Its all a learning experience and I enjoy the problem solving in it and improving as I go.
Cheers
Craig.
