Default A Motorbike for the Scale Modellers to build

A Motorbike for the Scale Modellers to build...
I'd seen this restored old motor bike and sidecar in camaflarged paintwork being ridden around the local area, then saw it parked in a carpark.
Sorry the photos are poor but they were taken with an old Nokia E65 phone camera.
I believe the bike is eastern European or maybe Russian though has a BMW look with the boxer engine.
I'm sure it'd look awesome as a model on the mantel piece.
    Cheers, crowie

Nice looking. It does look like a BMW.
I just did a quick search. They're Russian-made and even have an Australian website. imz-ural.com.au - Home

They come in a range of models, almost all with sidecars. 750cc engine, shaft-driven, the weight is 335kg. The one in your pics appears to be the Ural 'Gobi Ranger'. (Headlight on the sidecar.)

They've apparently been making bikes for 70 years, starting with the M72, which was a copy of the BMW R71, hence the BMW look.

For the 70th anniversary release, they made 30 w/ sidecar and an additional 10 solo bikes, not available here.

Edit: I can see why you thought it was an old, restored one, Pete. They definitely have an old look about them, but it's probably brand new.

Haven't really done any solid wood work since school but I just picked up a lathe and after hitting the turning section I saw a few trains showing up, which led me here.

Going to give a basic engine a shot for my 2yo lad.

Really should go visit that intro page......

    Thanks,

    Jason.

Yes John, I'm sure it's something Mel could do with great ease....one master craftsmen; that BSA he did was superb.
