    Default 4.3.metre plywood sloop Sprinter

Hi I'm hopeing for some help, I have bought some plans and a partly built hull, plans are complete but there is'nt any building notes. The plans are by Builda-A-Boat plans co from Sydney.. The boat is called a Sprinter. Does anyone know of this company or know where I could get some building notes ?. I think I will need them. Thanks for any help with this.

Most boat plans don't come with instructions, though some offer some detail notes.

What type of information are you looking for?

    Contact information seems to be:

11 Sydenham Rd, Brookvale, NSW 2100

    (02) 9938 4933

This company doesn't appear to have a web site and they're located above Sydney.

Give them a call and see what they can do.

Thanks I will give them a call. the plans say to see building notes for key to notation numbers, I think there is information on them that I need.
This is my first build, I will put up photos shortly.
    cheers

Is there a boat building group/mens shed near you?
If so, they may be a good place to ask.

Many designers use this method to comment about details. It sounds like you're missing some portion of the plans.

14' sloop plans are everywhere, some free. Of course free plans tend to be old, incomplete or use methods not in tune with modern building techniques.

You'd be best advised (if no satisfaction from the plans house) to select a design where the plans are well regarded.

You may want to consider the GIS, though not a sloop a splendid sailor and about the size you'd like (4.7 m). It has a solid following, many examples and an active forum, with the designer participating (here).

The Glen-L 14 is another design to consider. Also check Bateau.com and B&B Yacht Design (bandbyachtdesigns.com) for other offerings. These all have living (important) approachable designers and active forums.

There are literally hundreds to choose from, so don't get married to something that's less than complete and doesn't have someone you can call, if you have questions.

That is great advice. The GIS interests me, given the support available, ideal for a first build. It can be sailed by one person, rowed or small outboard would actually suit my/our needs more than a sloop.
    cheers

    Hi John,

There is a Sprinter 14 completed in S.E. Queensland.

It has the most spectacular finish I've ever seen on a wooden boat and it was on display at last year's Brisbane Boat Show.

Reports indicate it sails very well too.

If the owner attends tonight's WBAQ meeting, I will alert him to your thread.

    Steve.
    Charter boat? What charter boat!?

    Hi John
I'm the guy with the Sprinter 14.
Steve is very generous with his praise for the finish
I did put in a ridiculous amount of time on the finish, but I think the lines of the boat add a lot to it's appeal

I do have build instructions, in fact I have 2 different sets. One set from Build-a-Boat and one set from Clark Craft where I got the plans
Will scan and email them to you when I get a chance. The instructions are pretty basic and get less detailed as the build progresses
The build was not difficult for me as a first time builder, I actually did the build sequence different to the instructions when I became comfortable with the process. Like most builders I also changed the design some what.
Build photos can be found here
    RobRassy's Library | Photobucket
The photos have a brief description to explain some of the changes and should be in the build sequence if sorted/viewed in file order
There is also a folder there with photos of a Jem Watercraft canoe that I built while I was building the Sprinter (View them in custom order to see them in sequence)

How much of your Sprinter has been completed?

I'll be happy to help you with any advise you may want
The designer"Murray Isles" has retired now so will not be able to help

    Have fun with the build,

    Rob

It looks to me that Steve wasn't overly generous with his comments about the finish. I know photos can really clean things up, but the reflections in those photos tell everything and she's pretty damn sweet.

Wow, thanks Steve, very much appreciated. I'm going to have a look now at your build. Your boat looks great. Not too much has been done on mine, I will post some photos shortly.
Thanks for getting in touch, much appreciated.

Gee! those photos look familiar John
Did you check out mine in photobucket? I have lots more that weren't uploaded if you want more details
It looks like all the marking out and cutting is done.
How does it all fit together?

I have just been through the photos, took an hour and 15, haha
Great build, looks like some work involved but not suprised.
Mine is just tacked with nails, a few gyprock screws.
