    Cool Pics of some builds

I have been neglectful of posting but here is
    - a minimalist stick ukulele.
    - a dolmade dobro
    - a uke to tiptoe through the tulips with somebody special.

All three have now gone to new owners so apologies for lack of vid.
I am building out of enjoyment and have been giving them to people to show how much I care and because I can't knit*.
I have also given some away as play it forward ware.

For the materials concious out there the materials are meranti fret boards (from decking offcuts), pinus radiata from bunnies for the bodies, melamine chopstick nuts, fishing line strings, Cheap tuners from Ebay and in a big move for me fretwire instead of bamboo toothpicks. The Marco polo brand tin of dolmades was delicious and the bent key as a string anchor to help people play in key is actually hard to do as most keys just snap and heating them on the kitchen stove top to red hot only worked for some.
Finished in either tung oil(clear) or shellacked (with a bit of walnut prooftint)
The "liquid inlay" in the headstocks is just ground up artist chalk with a bit of superglue.

    * actually I can knit I just find it boring.

Beats scrap booking doesn't it Titch ). Are you bracing these instruments or do you find the pine is up to the job? And fret wire? Did you try nails?

No bracing, though I am using fiberglass gyprock tape as an internal binding in the layup. Keeping the width narrow also helps.

I have generally been happy with the performance of the bamboo toothpicks but have gone a bit mad in my dotage. I do have a roll of galvanised fencing wire gathering dust in the corner of the shed but.

Another instrument to think about is the Diddley bow. Requires some electronics but has mojo to spare,
