Today I bought some double sided sticky tape to hold the fret board on the fret template.
Tomorrow I'll have a go at cutting some fret slots.Cliff.

Fret slots have been cut.
Been playing around with U-Beaut Water Dyes to get the right colour.
Lots of sanding, started on the shellac this arvo, more sanding tonight.
Tomorrow should be gluing.Cliff.

I already own one of these.
I made a template to go in it from perspex using a really good ruler & this. Fret position calculator at Stewart-MacDonald

Shaping of the second neck is now finished.
Mounting blocks for bridge & pickup to screw to glued to the second neck.
Sanding is all done, necks sanded to 1200, body frames to 240, soundboards & backs to 320.
Staining is all done.
All items have at least 3 coats of shellac on them, a base coat of White shellac & light sanding & 2 coats of Hard shellac.
Taped up around the neck join to the body to make the glue easier to clean up.
Glue up is now in progress.
Titebond make a liquid hide glue.
Titebond - Product
I got some at Carba-tec.
3 soundboards joined, body currently clamped to the neck of the first one drying/setting.
I've run out of bench space for the last soundboard & I need the vice to hold he neck while the body frame is clamped to it so it is time for smoko.
I'll get some more pics when this lot is all glued up.
Then, unfortunately, I have to take a work break.
Tomorrow I fly home for 9 days to do some jobs & mowing so work will have to stop until Monday the 18th.Cliff.

Photos.
Fret slot cutting in action.
Mock up, front & back.
The fret board, soundboard & back have to be cut to size now.
I have also been told in another thread that the liquid hide glue is not recommended as it doesn't set as hard as the hot hide glue.Cliff.

The 23" scale one is a bit out of proportion, the box is way too big for it.
It is going to look like a tennis racquet.Cliff.

How have you got the lid and neck arranged? what I mean is the lid glued to the neck, or is there an air gap between them?
This question has confused me re CBG making. For mine I have left an air gap, with the rational that the lid can resonate. But I notice that most builds either glue the lid to the 'stick', or don't actually comment on what they have done.Chris

One will have an air gap & bracing under the soundboard so it can work as an acoustic as well, it will have a piezo pickup in the bridge.
The other will just be electric, it will have the lid glued to the neck like a solid body electric guitar.Cliff.

Thanks Cliff, that explanation makes sense, and has solved a riddle for me.

CBG Box size
Yeah I know what you mean regarding proportion, I've been knocking up a few cbg's and as it's really hard to get half decent cigar boxes around hear I also make my own boxes. After a lot of procrastination about box size I decided that the size of an A4 sheet and 50-60 mm deep is just about perfect, I plan the bridge position first and then position the neck with appropriate number of frets to give me as much space as I need on the box for other stuff.
Also, you may already know this but if you don't, and in case anyone is interested, I've stumbled upon this bloke in Vienna Elmar Zeilhofer who make these fantastic supper flat humbucking pickups that he calls flatpups, they are designed for CBG's but will work on anything with steal strings and they sound great.

I also pondered the air gap under the lid. Intuition pointed to an air gap helping the sound board vibrate but having a rigid structure won in the end. I was puting a piezo in anyhow so figured rigid was better. A things turned out it sounds reasonably good on it's own even with a paper covered cb as the body. I fixed the lid to neck and body with screws so that any future electrical work can be got at.

John
