As a former owner operator of an MGB (God I miss that car), I Will be watching this one with interest.

I would have loved to own a MGB, got to drive one from Sydney to Brisbane [1100kms/690miles] many years back.
Scared the daylights out of myself looking at the speedo.....100 okay .... that's MPH not KPH..... slowed down in a hurry......
Now Derek this build has taken on a whole other meaning for me, thank you.

Well managed to get all the boot and bonnet pieces complete and glued up. In the first shot it shows the boot parts with the two dowels which will help with line up when it is assembled later. The second picture is the bonnet in place again before glue up but this time in place the reason for the dowels sticking out like they do is to go into holes in the wings of the car. Have spent the rest of the day rough cutting some of the sheet material into wing parts will take more photo's tomorrow.

Today has been quite busy on the car even though it does not look like much. Have cut out and roughly shaped all the wing parts. Tomorrow I know that I will not get much done as family are descending upon us.
The wing assemblies look quite square at the moment and will not be glued up until I have rounded them over a bit so as to let me see how much of the centre I can cut away so that it will lighten it otherwise it will be very heavy.
I also cut the floor for the centre section not shown in the photo's
Something that you may also notice is that the depth of the car is now slightly smaller as it just looked too tall
The wheel arches I cut out with a router and a single bar and point on just one then roughed out with a jigsaw followed by the router again with a straight bit with a bearing.

Can't wait to see how this one turns out. I used to have a '67 MGB. I've even got a small die-cast model of one here - it's on my list of scale models to build.

I did manage to get into the shed and get some more done to the car. Cut some of the corners off with the bandsaw to save time cutting them away by hand. Got one of the wing assemblies roughly shaped so that I could see where to cut away some of the wood to help keep the weight down.

I am quite pleased with the shape once the wing is glued up I will give it a final rub down and eliminate any lumps and bumps

Thank you both all the holes in the wings are now cut out and both are now glued up. Tomorrow I will shape the second wing then I can get on with making the centre section. No new photo's as it would only look the same as what I have already posted.
Luckily not many changes to what I have in mind as I did sit and run through how and what I need to do in each stage and not a bit of paper in sight except the pictures I have posted earlier of the MG car. Am I mad well yes probably I am, but i am enjoying myself

The 2 wings are now shaped but probably still need some final fettling which will show up when I get the undercoat on.

Also cut out the inner wing panels which hold the axles the rear one shown also will support the seat.

Next job is to make the boot and bonnet sections these will be made up into boxes (for the want of a better word).

I do use plans for many things I make it is just that there was none out there for what I had in mind so the next best thing was to go with the flow so to speak.

I have had a couple of minor hiccups which probably would have not happened if I did have some plans. It certainly is a learning curve but as I said before I am enjoying it thats why I do woodwork in all its forms (well nearly all) and also I get to talk to a great bunch of people like the ones on here and some of the other forums I visit.

also started on the grill area the first two photos shows the marking out and drilling the third photo is the two parts after cut out and mounted on a 1/4" piece of ply and finally a dry fit

Why does so little take so long to do well that's what it seems to be the case today.


Cut these three boards to a manageable size ready to be made into the floor of the engine bay, boot floor, seat and firewall.

Cut and stuck on these piece on the left and right inner panels to support the seat

Glued up these two units which are for the transition from the ends and floor of the engine and boot area still need to be rounded to shape

Cut both front inner panels top left of this panel is where the dashboard will eventually fit.

Most of the parts now made ready for final assembly of these components.

The dowel is the steering wheel shaft and the other piece is to be fitted inside the engine compartment to hold the bottom end of the shaft still need to drill a hole 1/2 way through this will be strengthened either end with dowels.
