    Default Saxon's new fire truck

    Just finished a little fire truck for the elder of my two grandsons. Not sure what to do about the 5 granddaughters though!

    That's one good looking Fire Engine Peter, all ready for hours of fun & play, top job.

    Who's plan have you used please?

    On the girls.....
    how about a truck & horse float;
    a farm shed with a few animals;
    dolls house;
    dolls cradles or beds;
    pram;
    stroller;
    a garage;
    or maybe even a car or truck.....my girls played with them when they were little.....

    Cheers, crowie

    Great job on the fire truck There have been a few from this set of plans.

    I know the problem with girls as there is so much for boys and only a few for girls as Crowie has pointed out. Don't forget rocking horses or car

    It looks like the one from the book "Making Heirloom Toys" Peter

    Default Saxon's Fire Truck

    Peter and Dalboy.
    Thanks for those comments. Yes, the plan was from Jim Makowicki's "Making Heirloom Toys". However, those plans leave a bit to be desired. For instance, in the parts list for the ladder, the rails were to be 14 1/2" long. OK, fair enough. I use the parts list as a cutting list. Then, when I get to the section on the ladder, it starts off "Cut the lader rails to the correct thickness and width but 1 1/2" longer than specified". Wonderful!. I've just cut them 1 1/2" shorter than they really should be! I have now noticed a few little things like that in his plans. It obviously pays to read right through everything before you start to mark and cut any wood. I find that as I get older it becomes harder to remember all that I've just read, so I just get a little cheesed off. Anway, apart from that, I enjoyed making the truck.

    Peter, I have already started to make two of the pull along grasshoppers (from the same book), for the youngest grandchildren, a boy Harry and a girl, Elka.
    I previously made dolls houses for two of my daughters so those are now being used by the next generation and I have to come up with three large rocking horses by Christmas. So the girls aren't actually missing out, it's just that there a lot more plans for "boy toys".
    I did make one of the rocking horses the Christmas before last for my son's two older girls, as shown here.

    When making from instructions like the book a tend to break it down and read only the bit that I will be making each time. If I try to read all of it I forget things

    I also cut the ladder to the cutting list but made a jig to do the holes as the 1 1/2" extra he talks about is only there to hold the two halves together and then cut off.

    Great looking rocking horse the girls certainly look like they are enjoying it
