Can anyone identify this saw for me, please?
Hi all,
I bought this old saw today and was wondering if it's any good. It still has all it's teeth, which is a good start.
Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Chris.

Gold Flower Make/Manufacture?
I have a tentative translation:
Gold Flower Make/Manufacture
The "Flower" part is uncertain.
Cheers,
Chris.

Post a clearer, close up shot. The kanji for flower doesn't look quite right to the expert I have consulted...

Hi Chris,
I asked one of my work mates and he can't add much to your tentative translation.
The two characters above the makers name mean 'registered'
The makers name is: 'King' (character for gold); uncertain of central character but ruled out flower; 'made by'
Symbol behind handle is: 'JIS' (Japanese Industrial Standard)
Regards,
Gadge

Thanks Gadge,
attached is a much better image, after cleaning the blade.
P.S. Please pass on my thanks to your friend, it's much appreciated.
P.P.S I gather from the JIS mark that it's a mass produced blade made sometime between the end of WWII and 2005.
Cheers,
Chris.Last edited by chrrris; 2nd October 2013 at 12:19 PM. Reason: Added PS.

If I get time tomorrow I'll ask if any of the natives can tell me what that kanji means.

金花作
Hi all,
thanks for all your efforts.
Having done a google image search for 金花作, I get a lot of japanese saw images so I'm reasonably sure this is what is marked on the blade. Some of these images are much clearer than mine, and it shows how the character for "flower" has changed.

OK. Consulted my panel of experts and they came back with:
Kinsousaku
Kinsou is the name, saku just means "maker" don't worry if it mean golden pudding or dancing elves...it is just some dudes name.Semtex fixes all

No problem. They did remark that it is unusual kanji which puts it in a bucket of about 7000 characters they don't usually use...
