    Default Tough Tipper Truck....

    Well with the wedding now behind us and our holiday been & gone and health issues a little improved, it's time to have some fun..

    I was sorely missing my time in the woodwork shop.

    Mind you I have been making KindyGym props & aids like stepping turtles;
    along with the wedding ceremony decorations like rustic wooden boxes x6.

    I've started this Tough Tipper truck build, well I've started the "cutting list"....and here's a bit of a look see.
    Cheers, crowie

    Default Forgot the other photos..

    Forgot the other photos of the stepping turtles [1 repair & 2 new] and the rustic boxes x6 out of old pallets.....

    Also I did 30 off of a 50mm triangle with 3 holes,
    30 off of a 50mm square with 5 holes
    plus 30 off of a 50mm circle with 4 holes;
    all to be used for the kindygym kids to thread up & down through the holes...
    took forever cutting, drilling, sanding and painting, BUT I'm told the kids just loved the activity.....
    Shapes, Colours and motor skills all combined!!!

    Cheers, crowie

    That's a fine looking project. Won't say I was thinking pen blanks when I saw the grain on the bonnet/hood

    Second post 1st and last pic seem to be broken and my net is too slow to load the others. Will try again later

    Looking good Pete. The figure in that Camphor Laurel should come up well for the bonnet.

    When I read your first post, I was stumped by the 'stepping turtles' reference, but now all is clear. They look great too.

    Default I've had a little hiccup on this build progress.....

    I've had a little hiccup on this build progress.....a good but rough week which started last Sunday using the Bobbin Sander on a block car.
    I was clearing up a 1.75" hole with a 1.5" sanding sleeve when I must have wobbled the piece of timber [4" x 2" x 12" pine].
    Well the timber caught on the spindle & started rotating, hit the fingers on the left hand, smacked the right hand near the wrist, then in moving off of its platform it smacked me upper leg....the resultant bruises, swelling and pain is still a hindrance to doing most things.
    Next time I'll only use a 1" sanding sleeve on a 1.75'' hole!!!
    Now if that wasn't enough, I had a MRI of my neck/''c'' spine on Wednesday where they immobilize your head & neck in a cradle/cage before sliding me into the machines tunnel without my specs of course.
    I was told I swallowed at the wrong time & they had to do it all over again.
    My neck and back were both in spasm plus I lost it at one point and had to come out sit up, have a drink, put my specs on.
    Something like 1.5hrs and I came home worse than when I went with neck/shoulder/upper back pain plus lower back & sciatic pain.
    I see the orthopedic specialist next Wednesday.
    Damn, I just want to be well, pain free, play with the grand-kids, make wooden toys and continue to enjoy each new day BUT life is good.
    Anyway, I have managed to go through the "cutting list" double checking all the sizes and only found 3 mistakes.....
    Hopefully some better progress this week.
    Cheers crowie

    Ouch! Just goes to show, even a simple spindle sander has an element of danger.
    It's pretty tempting to use a sleeve that almost matches the size of the hole, but I've had a similar thing happen too, so allow a good margin for error now. We live and learn.
