Father Christmas in his Toy Factory
Last Saturday and Sunday the Unley City Council Library held a celebration (not sure what for actually). Anyway, Tony and I from our T.O.Y.S.Workshop were asked to do a bit of a demo, so along with our Coordinator, Sharon, we carted a number of wooden toys that we'd made over a period, to the library, as well as a couple of scroll saws. Saturday morning I spent most of my time fixing wheels to the little "dollies" and then fixing them to the underneath of a number of small railwaycarriages that I'd made at the workshop. Then I joined Tony in turning out heaps of dolphins, doves, camels, donkeys, love hearts and tulips cut from various thicknesses of craftwood. These were then given to any children that came by. Two of my daughters dropped by on Sunday afternoon and Hannah took several photos of us, which she later placed on Facebook. One of our old friends made the comment that it looked like Father Christmas in his Toy Factory. Both Tony & I have beards, glasses, and hats, so we looked very similar except that Tony is nowhere near as portly (ahem!) as me. We had a ball talking to all the interested people and seeing the looks of delight on the children's faces when given an animal cutout for free. Tony had a great time demonstrating one of his little models, which was a wooden battleship with a small wooden button on the side. Tony would then ask people if they knew what happened when the ship was torpedoed and would then flick a small red wooden cylinder at the button on the side of the ship. This would trigger off a small leaf spring in the centre of the battleship and the deck and guns etc etc would fly up into the air!. Sharon said she could have sold my small biplane about 30 times over, as well as the larger steam engine and the smaller complete train. Ah, all very good fun.
Have attached the photos Hannah took. Unfortunately none of Tony or Sharon.
