Being me I spent Christmas Day trying to get the sump finished.
In the end I didn't quite make it but I did get close.
I got all of the fins on the bottom of the sump done and managed to get two coats of primer on it.

    IMG_1333.jpg IMG_1334.jpg

It was a heck of a job blending the fins into the sump with bodyfiller.

    IMG_1336.jpg

Tomorrow I'll hopefully get it top coated at some stage.

    IMG_1339.jpg

I'm pretty happy with the way it's all going at the moment.
But I think to this point it's been more good luck than good management.

Anyway I hope everyone is having a happy Christmas!
    Cheers.

I have found this whole build to be utterly fascinating, thank you. It completely blows my mind what you have achieved.

    Are/were you a pattern maker?

Thanks mate being asked if your a pattern maker is a great compliment.
But no I don't have any training in the field "unfortunately".
Although I was lucky enough to meet an wonderful old bloke about eight years ago who was.
He'd worked for General Motors his entire working life as a pattern maker.
And he was kind enough to say I was born a generation to late.

When I started making things about ten years ago even my old wood working teacher from school
    was a bit beside himself.
He'd been talking to my father, when I asked Dad what mister Thomas had said.
Dad told my he'd said that at school I'd showed "No Aptitude".
I was pretty happy with that!

I really enjoy what I do and the fact that you seem to be enjoying it as well is all the better.
    Cheers.

    G'Day Trevor,
Your teacher certainly missed the mark by a big margin..
Your patience, ability and talent have shone in this build and in others which you have shared..
Life is what you make it so keep making it good..
Personally I am both amazed and mesmerized at the processes you have shown us, thank you..
    Cheers, crowie

    Looking great Trevor.
(I was going to ask if you're a pattern maker too.)

Sorry about the flash heavy pictures I finished up after dark.
Today I got the top coat on the sump and fitted it with a gasket.
I also got started on the Gear Cover on the front of the engine.

    IMG_1357.jpg IMG_1355.jpg

At the moment there's only a couple of screws holding the Gear Cover in place.
After it's mounted properly it will be painted chrome.

    IMG_1358.jpg IMG_1356.jpg

It's probably about time to add some metal struts to the engine stand.
That will hold the engine securely in place and give me the clearance to be able
to fit the frame when it's made.

    Cheers.

I'd just like to thank everyone again for their kind word's.
And I'm really happy that you seem to be enjoying the build.

I've spent most of today modifying the engine stand so that I can bolt
the engine to it through it's mounts.
It will make it much safer to transport to Dave's Australia Day Bun Fight!

If everything goes to plan I should be there.
And I'm looking forward to meeting some of you guy's.

P.S John you can come up anytime you like, just give me a heap of notice,
It takes forever to get everything out and cleaned up!

    Cheers and thanks again.
    Trevor.

I spent most of today priming and sanding the gear cover.
I had just enough time a the end of the day to get a coat of chrome on it.

    IMG_1365.jpg IMG_1371.jpg

It's come up pretty well but I wont be touching it for about a week giving it plenty of time to dry.

    IMG_1369.jpg

I also got a little bit done around the gearbox.
The drive sprocket is from the back wheel of a bicycle, I modified it to look flat.
I haven't set the drive at any particular length, I'll work that out after the frame is made.

I'm still working on the struts to carry the engine, I didn't get much done on them today.
But hopefully they'll be done in a day or so.

    IMG_1360.jpg

I hope everyone has a great time over the New Year.
    Cheers.

I got the legs of the stand finished, they hold the engine securely.
It makes the hole thing a lot easier to work on.

    IMG_1373.jpg IMG_1376.jpg

The other good thing about having the engine raised is I can drop the sump away
    at any time.

    IMG_1374.jpg

And it's great for having a look at the detail of the sump behind the Gear cover.
The Gear cover's only held in place with three screws at the moment.
I'm still don't wont to handle it to much.
The chrome paint looks great but can be a nightmare.

    IMG_1378.jpg

    Cheers and Happy New Year!

Just bloody marvelous, Trevor..... VERY WELL DONE.....

But now you need a frame & a set of wheels to carry the engine around...
Oh, PLUS a seat & handle bars too.....

All the best for a top 2014.... Cheers, crowie

    Thanks Mate,
    Hopefully it's all to come.
It looks like I've got about four to six weeks work left on the engine.
Then I'll get started on the frame.

Best of luck in the New Year.
    Cheers.
    Trevor.
