More great progress Jim. It's a real shame about the poor quality casting of some of the parts, as the rest of the kit seems really well put together. Don't suppose you'd consider manufacturing your own replacement part? With a mill and a bit of aluminium it should be possible (in theory, anyway!)

Watching your work and attention to detail, I do understand why you would suggest this. Conversely, I don't have any power tools except a table saw and a Dremel.
I am thinking that some day a stereo lithography outfit may be in my future...wining the lottery assumed.

This particular part will be nestled ahead of the cockpit, under the machine guns and behind the engine so I doubt it will be very visible and I am hoping my rigging makes it acceptable. We shall see.

Been doing a bunch of painting of parts. I decided to use gun metal on the machine guns and steel for most of the control parts. I've polished the britannia metal where it seems appropriate and have finished the cockpit controls but for gluing together and putting on a coat of clear to simulate glass over the gauges.

Progress has been a bit slow....mixing and painting and cleaning brushes for such small bits of paint.

Any way, some more pics.

And yes, I found a penny the size of a dinner plate to make everything look small....

I do understand the nerve and eyesight issues ...without my magnifier this would be an impossible project. As for nerves, I tend to use both hands with parts in a fixture...hoping the shaking of one hand will cancel out the shake of the other...kind of like noise dampening.....

And sorry....I've been sworn to secrecy as to the source of my giant penny.....

Today was installation day for the control stick, aileron crank, throttle assembly and rudder bar. Sorry about the focus on a couple of the pics, I keep mixing in magnified and non magnified and am never sure of the result.

Next will be the tanks along with the instrument panel. Then comes the customized piping routed to the tanks and panel....gonna be fun....NOT

NOTE: The rotatable jig for the fuselage (some parts included) is highly recommended. In fact, I would not even attempt this part without it....it acts as a third hand and allows better access for small parts.

Anyway.....the build continues.....

Looking great now it is all the little bits that take the time. I did notice the rotary jig in some previous photo's looks like it is well needed.

Had some interruptions but am plodding onward. The 'plumbing' has taken a bit more time than anticipated. Having to figure out the routing to not interfere with future parts placement was a challenge. So I kept going back and forth between pictures and drawing while trying to measure and form the wire that represents piping. As one looks at the attached pics., see if you can find the plumbing......

There are lines from fuel tanks, oil tank, selector switch, hand pump, throttle and mixture control, carburetor.......with lines to the magnetos, oil pump, fuel pump and instrument panel gauges to come.

But first is mounting the ammo boxes and instrument panel....

I know this is not woodwork but, hopefully, I'll soon be starting final assembly......

The little tank over the fuel tank is the auxiliary fuel tank. The tank toward the front is the oil tank...

The ammunition boxes go behind the oil tank....which is the next installation before adding the instrument panel and its' plumbing....
