I Got Saw Nuts. But not the right ones.
I'm on the hunt for a couple of saw nuts/bolts.
I've been following Pauls and Nicks threads about refurbishing some lovely old handsaws and it reminded me I need a couple of saw bolts and nuts (I don't know what the correct term is but I'm sure you all know what I mean.)
I cleaned this saw up a little while ago but it is missing one bolt and two nuts.

The handle is 24mm thick. The bolts and nuts are both domed and around 12.3 - 12.5 mm dia.
The bolt shaft has 4 locating lugs and is 4.75 mm dia.
The slotted nut is 7 mm dia.
The saw is nothing special but it has a very nice handle that is very comfortable in the hand. It's a Warranteed Superior but looks a lot like a Diston.
While we're on the subject of Distons, is this of any use to anyone. I picked it up in a lot of handles (for the saw nuts) but thought it might be a good replacement for anyone doing up an old Diston backsaw with a dodgy handle. A small piece missing from the back but should be easy to repair.

Thanks Paul. See if anyone wants the backsaw handle too. I forgot to mention it will only cost you postage or via the forum network.

Initially I thought this thread might have been better placed in the Health Issues section, but then I realised my error .
Unfortunately there are so many different types of nuts and threads. Warrented Superior was used by Disston on their lower grade saws as I found out recently with one of mine.
I can't remember if you have a lathe, but starting with some brass bar, even on a wood lathe, it may be possible to fashion a replacement. IanW put me onto that when I called in recently and in fact showed me a saw with a sawnut he had made. It was nigh impossible to pick the difference.

NCArcher,
This one is ...
around 12.7 -12.8mm dia.
The bolt shaft has 4 locating lugs and is 5.3 mm dia.
The slotted nut is 7 mm dia.
Screwed down tight it is 24.4mm from top to top of each dome.
If you don't have any joy locally, let me have your address by PM, and I send it.
I had two in my hand, but the bolt for the other is lost in the gravel path out front of the shed...woops!
Regards,
Peter

good luck in your search
I don't think I have anything suitable (that is not being used in a saw) but I'll have a look tomorrow.
I'm still trying to work out which of my couple I'll keep and which are spare parts and scrapersregards
