Ian, the slots for the slipfeathers were cut on the table saw using a jig I made to hold the box in the right position, with a 1.8mm blade. The feathers are cut from a strip of offcut, sanded to thickness on the drum sander.

    Hi Alex,

What are the dimensions of this box? In particular, how much space is under the lift-out tray? I'm looking at making a similar box, and think you've got the dimensions spot-on.

    Cheers,

    Hi Alex,

    What a lovely box..

I was wondering how you got the white edges around the top of the lid? Cheers

    Thanks folks.
The overall dimensions are about 250 x 200 x 75. The space under the tray is about 25mm.
The edge stringing is done after the box is assembled, by routing out a rebate along the edges, and gluing in a thin strip of silver ash.
