Thank you Derek for sharing the train plan...much appreciate; it's in the memory bank for "ron"....Cheers crowie...

Just a little aside.....my good lady & eldest daughter are putting together a display team of 20 gymnasts & planning a trip to Helsinki in July 2015 for the World Gymnaestrada....last time when it was in Austria, I slipped, fell & broke a hip so missed out....maybe might get there next year if it all works out..

Sorry a bit slow on this project at the moment. Have had to put it to one side so I can complete 5 money boxes which someone wants. I have managed to round over some of the edges.

Hope you are fit and well for the event in July next year Peter mind it is still a long way off.

I see a train forming now! This is going to be great and thanks for posting the plans. It resides in my bulging plans folder now.

Well the glue up has started and the main body is now in clamps. Have been doing this over the last two days. Also the two parts of the boiler are now glued will have to photograph that later today or tomorrow.

The rest of today will be to rout out the coin slots in these 5 money boxes, yesterday I managed to cut all the holes to empty them.

I did have to go back to the how to I did on drilling the holes and making the bungs. I have this in a file I keep I will get around to making it into a PDF sometime if people are interested

Just come in from the workshop to have a cuppa and also draw the face for the front of the boiler. Spent the morning glueing up again don't you just hate waiting for glue to dry.

The cabin and boiler from yesterdays glue up. I will be painting these as sub assemblies to make it easier.

The cabin still needs a roof but that will not be fitted until after the interior has been painted

It will not be long now before I start to paint

Will be starting that over the weekend.

Mean while the rest of the day has quite (waiting for more glue to dry) Now the glue has dried enough to remove from the clamps. so I have done a dry fit of the main components, still some small bits to do.

Tomorrow before I do any carving I must re-drill the axle holes. I am embarrassed to say that when I glued the two buffer assemblies to the main chassis I stuck them on the wrong ends. If you look at the spacing of them you will see they are reversed to how they should be

Thomas is looking great from the angles of the pictures you can really see the depth and lines of the train.
I know is a toy but you're doing such a great job, any train enthusiast would be pleased to see it.

I'm enjoying your build so much hopefully you'll get carried away and build all of the trains from the show
and a roundhouse to put them in.
Really great work mate your Grandson will be as chuffed as Thomas

There you go being overly honest! I wouldn't have noticed, the buffer assemblies being wrong, well in fact I still don't because I don't even know which parts they are! Looking mighty good to me.

    Thank you Peter and PLD.

Pld I like to be able to do a little of some things in woodworking such as carving which I am a complete novice as there is so much to learn, having said that it comes in handy for the little jobs like this. Turning and toy making is my main interest in woodwork

Very little done today as I volunteered to cook Sunday lunch as the wife was out all morning, and on top of that keeping in touch with my sister as my dear old mum was taken into hospital after a small fall (she is 90) all is OK they have kept her in just to keep an eye on her for 24hrs.
Anyway back to what I have done. I managed to re-drill the axle holes in the right place and plug up the old ones this was only a small job and easy enough to do(no photos)

And also done a little to the face still some more tidying up.
