Default Gunmetal and gold Phoenix pine cone

I cast a few of these yesterday ,but only had time to turn one of these up today for tomorrows market I used a light mix of pearlex to get some translucency ,seemed to be ok especially at the clip end where there is not much pine cone ,so you can see right into it like 3D hehe. Cheers ~ John

They look great John. Nicely done with the casting.
Are they just a normal pine cone that you find anywhere?

Hate the looks of those components.
Too bad you put a super looking blank on those components.

Yep just the common old pine cones , but need to be well and truly dry and open with the seeds gone. I trim to about one inch square with a bandsaw , a bit scary and messy as bits go everywhere, then use a belt sander to get small enough to go in my mold . Also need a pressure pot for casting to force the PR into all the nooks and crannies ,turning is also a bit of a challenge as the wood is hard as, and then the softer PR ,but course sandpaper is a help ,and light scraping with a sharp skew works wonders , all up a bit more work than a normal blank ,but always worthwhile for the effort ,cheers ~ John

Super blank John!!! And a well made pen!!!

Bit inclined to agree with Les on the kit. I have mixed feelings regarding that kit.

John, love your work, I think that style of pen may have to be held in the hand to be fully appreciated. Amos
