    Default The Road Grader

Thank you to everybody for their posts on this build. It was a good plan to build & it look's like you bloke's liked it too. PLD the rail's are painted in an acrylic craft paint. As to what is next, I have just ordered 3 plan's out of T/Js, a Cat Loader, which if I remember correctly BigD built a good looking model of not so long ago, a coal burning locomotive & tender, which could be a bit of a problem since I do not own a lathe & can't drive one. I also ordered a plan for a 1917 Ford Truck, just because I like the look of it. Everybody need's a challenge occasionally. Don't they ? Regard's Jim.

Can you tell me what you made the rails out of?
I tried dowels on my first one didn't work so good so left them off.
Sold it so i am now making 2 of them.
Really like the looks of it with rails on.
Maybe i will have to try brass rod unless i hear of a better idea.

Oneye, G'day. I did use the 3/32" dowel as supplied in the kit. I'll give you a brief rundown as to how I built them. I cut all the pieces as per the measurement's, then I set the depth gauge on the drill press to 1/4" deep, if I remember correctly & drilled the holes in the block. With the short length's in the block & held tight you still have two hand's free to hold & glue the longer piece. I also used Loctite super glue "Gel" to hold them together. It is much better than a liquid super glue but it set's very quickly & you only get one chance at it. Then let them set overnight, out of the block & sand of any daggy edges & paint them with craft paint to hide the joins. I then glued into the block at this stage, Job's then done. I hope this info is a help to you, anything else , let me know. I hope we will see your finished project's on the forum. Regard's Jim.
