It's sad that for all the laughs and cheer he brought to us that behind his smile was a sadness that couldn't be healed

Sometimes people we have never met personally touch our lives. This is just one of those times.

At a TV show taping, Robin Williams came through just because he was in the building. I got to shake hands with him. (I'm sure he would remember.) He really stirred up the audience during the "warm up" much to the embarrassment of the warm up comic. He then spent some time with the comic off to the side and I'm sure offering pointers and such.

His death absolutely stunned me as it was so unexpected. Those of us not in the most intimate relationship with Robin were shocked.

From what I've heard, those that were privileged to have that intimate relationship were stunned.

    God rest your soul, Robin.

I am often surprised at how our "funny men" in real life are so troubled.

I don't think anybody who ever saw Robin Williams would deny his talent or his ability to see the bizzare in the most banal situations.

The list of "troubled" comedians would have to include:

    Spike Milligan
    John Cleese

and possibly the most tortured funny man of all time:

    Tony Hancock
