Wood/ply
I have a mind to build a hollow body electric guitar. I quite like the look of layered ply, is it feasible/wise to construct the body from ply. The design I had in mind is to cut a blank to shape, route cavities for pickups, controls, etc, route a couple of larger cavities (semi acoustic ?) either side of a central core which extends to the base and layer ply back and front to finish off? Another option would be to construct the central core from solid wood and layer back and front with ply? Know nothing of guitar making, will be a first attempt!

Don't see why not. The main contributors to the sound are the pickups and electronics. I would use a solid wood neck. This could be a striking instrument.
