Keepsake Box with 100 year old SGS badge
Hello all,
I just finished this box for my cousin's son who attends SGS. My father wanted him to have it when he passed away.
Dad's father's brother George (K.I.A. July 1918) wore it to cadets in 1910. Dad then wore it in 1945-48.
The timber is Qld Maple (taken from Dad's dad's last project, he died when dad was 12) and Murray River Red gum. I have used powdered aluminium as a feature in the sides and recessed the badge. The base is lined with pig skin and the timber finished with Hard Burnishing Oil.
It measures 180mm x 180mm x 140mm.
A lot of history for William to pass on!
regardsBilly

Not sure about mixing something as old as the badge with the more contemporary dots but the result is a very nice piece anyway

Point taken.
Thanks Vern, I take your point. I also wanted a contemporary feel for William who is only 13.
