I'd be interested to know what the noise difference is. Perhaps you have a db metre on your phone? (better than nothing)

I initially tested it at about 74db at 1 metre in the open and in the enclosure with only one door on it's about 63db. I'd like to get it below 60db when the other door is installed.

Fairly happy so far and it can only improve but more importantly there won't be as much dust in the workshop and making me feel sick. Just need to run the ducting to vent outside.

Well done Andy, you have inspired me to enclose my DC which lives outside the shed, but is a bit too noisy to run when the neighbours are home.

Can you please give us some idea of the dimensions and what size inlet/outlets you put on it? How do you get access to change the bags, especially fitting that damn band clamp that holds the lower plastic bag
    regards,

    Dengy

    Dengy,

The enclosure is 1800 wide by 900 deep and about 2200 high. My DC is a twin bag unit though so my dimensions will be different to yours. I have cut a 6" opening for 6" ducting to go through.

Bags are changed by simply removing the door which will be attached by a screw and magnets but I'm still figuring out the best method. Bags are changed as per normal which is by using magnets to hold the bags in place then attach the bag clamps.

I wanted to achieve two things with this enclosure - reduce leaking dust from my DC which was making me sick and reduce noise. I think I'm better off now after this build.

It's quiet enough now that I can run it later in the evenings without anyone complaining about noise. I'm going to test it (for noise) tonight with DC running in combination with some of my machines to see how quiet it is. I've sound insulated my workshop also so I'm hoping for a decent noise reduction so I can do woodworking in the evenings.

Andy, when you are considering the noise, remember that whatever you can hear outside will be reduced again by the time it gets through next door's walls.

Yep I've considered that- I'm curious to know what it would actually sound like. Maybe I'll knock on their door and do a test.
